Sir Roderick Floud has taught at London, Cambridge and Stanford Universities and was Professor of History at Birkbeck College London, President of London Metropolitan University and Provost of Gresham College, London. He was knighted for services to higher education. He is the long-standing editor of The Cambridge Economic History of Modern Britain and has been a pioneer in two new fields of economic history: the use of quantitative methods and the history of human height and health. His third innovation is the economic history of gardens and the garden industry and his book An Economic History of the English Garden will be published in November 2019.
