Peter Solar is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Professeur Invité at Université Saint-Louis—Bruxelles. He received his PhD from Stanford University for work on the economic history of pre-famine Ireland. His continuing research on Irish economic history has led him onto other avenues of inquiry, notably on poor relief in early modern Europe and on the European cotton and linen industries and the U.K. shipping industry during the Industrial Revolution.
