Dr. Thibaud Giddey

Thibaud Giddey is a lecturer (Maître assistant) in contemporary history at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and an associate member of the University of Oxford History Faculty. As of August 2023, he will be a Swiss Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Zurich. Prior to this, in 2021-2022, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher on the ERC funded project Global Correspondent Banking 1870-2000. His role in the project focused on gathering and using archival data on the strategies, management and governance of international correspondent banking relationships by European banks. He previously held visiting positions at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), City University London and Uppsala University (Sweden).

 

His research interests lie at the crossroads between the history of financial supervision and regulation, the internationalisation of banking, the history of white-collar crime, the role of business elites in modern societies. His recent publications include the Formalization of Banking Supervision, 19th-20th centuries (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) and The Institutionalization of the Fight against White-Collar Crime in Switzerland, 1970-1990 (Business history, 2020).
