Alex recently completed his DPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the economic history of British India, and covers both the industrial sectors, including the fate of the hand loom industry as well as the growth of factory industry, and the rural economy, in particular that of Bengal, with a focus on long term developments and tenurial relations. Alex seeks to collect data and use quantitative methods combined with economic theory in novel ways to address classic debates in the literature. He is also interested in comparative Asian economic history.
