Sandra Fleischman wins First Prize at annual German “History Slam”

Sandra Fleischman, MPhil student in Economic and Social History, was awarded First Prize for her History Slam presentation at the Deutsche Historikertag (the Annual Conference of German Historians) in October. At the History Slam, graduate students make 10-minute presentations of their dissertation research. The winner is selected via an online vote, where the audience typically votes for the funniest and most accessible presentation. Sandra’s title was “Peter the Goatherd was a Bastard”, referring to the character in the 1881 Swiss best-seller Heidi. Sandra’s MPhil thesis is on “The Role of Formal and Informal Institutions in the Rise and Fall of Illegitimacy in Former Anterior Austria and Markgräflerland”.
